Microchips are the size of a grain of rice which is approximately 6 to 7mm long. The chip is, in most cases, inserted between the shoulder blades. Sometimes, if you run your hand over the area, you can feel a slight nudge of the microchip placed under the skin.

What is the procedure for microchipping a pet?

Inserting a microchip is similar to getting a vaccine. The chip is loaded into a slightly larger syringe and injected under your pet's skin, just like a vaccine.

What is the cost of microchipping a pet? Does pet insurance cover the cost of microchipping?

Microchipping is an affordable procedure whose benefits heavily outweigh the costs. Microchipping your pet can provide you peace of mind and ensure your pet is reunited with you in case they get lost. With regards to insurance, different insurance companies cover different procedures. Please call your insurance provider to verify if microchipping costs are included in your pet's coverage.
