Behaviour

Learn new techniques to address your pet's behaviour issues.

A well-trained pet equals a happy owner. However, despite the time and effort we put into training our pets, their behaviour is not always ideal. What starts as a minor nuisance develops into destructive, unwanted behaviour that can seriously undermine your bond with your pet. Some of the more common abnormal behaviours in dogs can include aggression and separation anxiety. In cats, aggression and inappropriate litter box habits top the list. Our highly educated staff and experienced veterinarians are ready to address unwanted pet behaviours. Call us today at 416-538-8387 to schedule your pet's appointment.

How can a behavioural counselling session help my pet?

The first order of business in getting to the bottom of unwanted behaviour is to rule out any medical reason for the behaviour with a thorough exam and full history. An underlying medical condition can often be the reason behind the unwanted behaviour. For example, a cat who stops using the litter box may have a urinary tract infection or arthritis, both of which make it painful to use the box.

Post evaluation, our vets can help you understand the cause of unruly behaviour and suggest techniques to manage it. We can also suggest excellent trainers who can work with your pet and help them overcome their behaviour issues.

What can be the causes of my pet's unusual behaviour?

If it's not an underlying health condition, your pet's unusual behaviour may be caused due to other reasons, such as:

  • Past Trauma: If your pet has past experiences of being treated badly, it can trigger issues and cause them to behave in an aggressive or closed-off manner.
  • Irritation: If disturbed by others, it can cause pets to be irritated and lash out in response.

Anxiety: Yes, pets can have anxiety too. It can be caused due to trauma, or they might be bothered by people and their behaviours or their environment.
