Sometimes we need to make use of advanced diagnostics to get to the bottom of whatever is ailing your pet and to recommend the best possible treatment plan. X-rays and ultrasounds are painless, non-invasive ways for our vets to obtain detailed “inside” views of your pet's body. These tools help assess the heart, lungs, abdominal organs, and bones for disease, blockages, fractures, and other “unseen” problems. Why does my pet need an ultrasound?
Ultrasound provides our vets with a 3-dimensional view of your pet's internal chest and abdominal organs. If we recommend an ultrasound, a Board Certified Veterinarian attends our clinic to obtain and interpret the images in collaboration with our vets, again on-site and in real time. Ultrasound also allows us to obtain guided tissue samples if required for a comprehensive diagnosis.
How long does an X-ray take?
X-rays can be performed quickly and painlessly right in our clinic and analyzed on the spot by our experienced vets. Typically, your pet will only be with us for a couple of hours, and in most cases, sedation is not necessary.
Why does my pet need an X-ray and an ultrasound?
To obtain the most diagnostic information possible, X-rays and ultrasound are commonly done together. The two procedures complement and enhance one another. It is in the best interest of your pet's health that a veterinarian might suggest both diagnostic procedures.
